2DH: Fifty Hours Later, It Still Feels Great
Battle Red Blog &bull Dec 13, 2011
Your Houston Texans have played a game of footed ball on December 11 exactly twice in their near-decade of games. On December 11, 2005, the Texans rolled into Nashville sporting a 1-14 record. Also on that date, the San Francisco 49ers had an identically terrible record, and a race to to the bottom was in full swing. Also in full swing, my love of a certain mutant DE from North Carolina State who I dreamed would assuage memories of taking David Carr over Julius Peppers in 2002. I dragged my wife to a local sports bar that day to watch… Full Story »

Finally: Thank You, Houston Texans
Battle Red Blog &bull Dec 13, 2011
Ten years. Well, almost ten years. Nine years, plus 13 games. For the first time in franchise history, your Houston Texans will be playing postseason football. They'll be doing it without Matt Schaub , Mario Williams , and who knows who else. Somehow, your Houston Texans are 10-3 despite their best player, one Andre Johnson , missing seven games and counting. The Texans are 2-0 in… Full Story »

Defying The Narrative
Battle Red Blog &bull Dec 13, 2011
You could just enjoy it. Your Houston Texans are headed to the playoffs for the first time in their 10 years of existence. Moreover, the way they have done it has been nothing short of remarkable. If you had asked me to name the five most important Texans before the season, I would have told you they were, in no particular order: Arian Foster , Matt Schaub , Andre Johnson , Mario Williams , and Johnathan Joseph . Four of those five have missed games this season, two of them are out for the season, and yet the Texans have… Full Story »

I Woke Up This Morning And It Was Not A Dream
Battle Red Blog &bull Dec 12, 2011
According to Advanced NFL Stats, with three minutes to play, and the Bengals holding the ball, the Texans had a mere 13% probability of winning the game. Around the same time (with about four and a half minutes left in that game), the Titans had a 74% chance of losing. That means that around that time, the probability of both occurring and the Texans becoming the the AFC South champions was a mere 9.6%. Yet somehow, T.J. Yates managed to morph into John Elway for the final few minutes and the Texans are division champs and headed to the playoffs… Full Story »

NFL History 101: When Did Each Franchise First Make The Playoffs?
Battle Red Blog &bull Dec 12, 2011
Given that the Houston Texans have now made the playoffs after entering the NFL as an expansion team in 2002, I thought I would take a look around the league to see how long it took other franchises to make their first trip to the playoffs. It is important to note that there are some notes about the AFL, AAFC, and other leagues teams may have joined prior to the NFL.… Full Story »
