Browns' Watson: No lingering symptoms from concussions
NFL.com &bull Feb 12, 2012
One of the primary reasons for the Cleveland Browns' dismal showing on offense during the 2011 season was the team's lack of playmakers in the passing game. The shortage of viable targets was highlighted as tight end Ben Watson battled… Full Story »

Understanding Contract Restructures & Pay Cuts In Relation To The Steelers Salary Cap
Steelers Depot Blog &bull Feb 11, 2012
This time of year I always get quite a few questions and comments about the Pittsburgh Steelers salary cap situation. Many are confused as to what a restructured contract is, and many view it as a pay cut. In light of the most recent restructures that the Steelers have done, I thought now would be a good time to try to help clarify a few things in relation to that topic. Let us start with the contract that LaMarr Woodley, who was the first player announced as having his contract restructured, signed before the season started last year. The contract… Full Story »

Cowboys 2012 Draft: How Good Is Dallas At Assembling A Draft Board, Part IV: The 2010 Board
Blogging the Boys &bull Feb 10, 2012
In the first three parts of this series, I looked at last year's "little board ," assembled from players invited to Valley Ranch for "Dallas Day," then zeroed in on the offensive players from that board ( part II ), followed by the defensive guys ( Part III ). In doing so, I confirmed what people with access to Valley Ranch have been saying for years: that Dallas Director of Pro Personnel Tom Ciskowski (and, before him, Jeff Ireland) do a masterful job identifying potential Cowboys and building a draft board. Still, as I admitted at the time, those conclusions… Full Story »

Salary Cap Issues: What Decisions Are The Steelers Faced With in 2012, Part II
Behind the Steel Curtain &bull Feb 10, 2012
This is the second part of a series on the Steelers' salary cap issues, and the moves we can expect them to either contemplate or make before March 13 - the start of the league's 2012 year - and after it. Previously, we explored candidates whom will be asked to take a pay cut, which players will have their salaries restructured and what we can expect in Restricted Free Agency. Poison Pills In relation to NFL contracts, the term "Poison Pill" means a clause in a qualifying offer from another team that would make it extremely difficult for the original… Full Story »

Haley says they'll do whatever it takes to win
Steelers Addict &bull Feb 10, 2012
Todd Haley wasted little time assuring everyone that the Steelers offense he will run will do whatever is necessary to win. If that means throwing the ball like he did when he was the offensive coordinator with the Arizona Cardinals, fine. If that means running the ball like he did in 2 1/2 seasons as coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, that's fine, too. But, after saying there is "a lot of carry over" and… Full Story »

Steelers 2012 Salary Cap Bone Still Has A Lot Of Meat Left On It
Steelers Depot Blog &bull Feb 10, 2012
The Pittsburgh Steelers have already made a solid dent in the 2012 salary cap problems that they faced heading into the offseason, but there is still a lot of meat left on the bone that needs to be chewed off. The release ofBryant McFadden and Arnaz Battle on Wednesday, combined with the expected contract restructures of LaMarr Woodley and Lawrence Timmons, instantly slashed almost $15.25 million off of the 2012 cap number. Currently I have the Steelers 2012 cap number at just shy of $129 million with the players currently under contract and the current dead money. That number does… Full Story »

NFL Pro Bowl: Can Boosting Players' Motivation Help Save It?
Behind the Steel Curtain &bull Feb 9, 2012
I realize the Pro Bowl is old news by now, if that isn't an oxymoron. But the problem with things that happen on an infrequent basis and have proven to be unsatisfactory is that everybody complains at the time, but nobody does anything about it until the next one is imminent and it is too late to do anything differently. So I believe the time to explore ideas about how to fix the Pro Bowl is now. When I was a kid, my mom got Good Housekeeping magazine. Despite the title it wasn't entirely about housekeeping by any means, but… Full Story »

Mike Lupica, New York Daily News: "This was the night, in the second Super Bowl against the Patriots, the second time he won the game for his team in the last minute of a Super Bowl, that Eli Manning made it all official, that he is not just one of the great clutch quarterbacks in the history of his sport, but as great a clutch athlete as we have ever had in New York, in anything.
